How To Cleanse & Raise The Vibrations In Your Home
Your body is your temple, and your home is your sanctuary.
“All things appear and disappear because of the concurrence of causes and conditions. Nothing ever exists entirely alone; everything is in relation to everything else.” - Buddha
Here we are! More than halfway through November. It is estimated that Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) affects about 5 percent of the US population. That is a lot of people! And these colder, darker months certainly can be depressing. Common ways to keep the winter depression at bay include light therapy, pills, and psychotherapy… Oof! This week, I wanted to talk about holistic ways to cleanse and raise the vibrations in your home- as we tend to spend more time at home during these colder, darker months. These tips are scientifically backed and work for good vibes all year round.
Declutter
The human mind craves order and patterns. Living in clutter means giving your brain a constant visual of the opposite, and will ultimately attract that same negative energy. Clutter in your home, whether or not you consciously realize it, can be very taxing on your mood, focus, and memory. Taking the time to declutter will instantly raise the vibrations in your home and within yourself.
Let in the natural light
Having the blinds open when it is light outside is one of the easiest ways to cleanse and raise the energy in your home. So many people spend 24 hours of their day indoors, dependent on artificial light sources. Natural light is essential for our psychological and physical wellness. Even 10 to 15 minutes a day can make a difference.
Open the windows
Fresh air feeds the soul and body! When you let fresh air into your home, you let negative energy out. Also worth mentioning, it will likely improve your indoor air quality. I have a window cracked in my home almost every day of the year. Try it and you are guaranteed to find that it makes a difference!
Get some plants
The inherent beauty of plants is wonderfully uplifting. There is a reason why we give them to one another to mark milestones, express love, thanks, congratulations, and condolences! Having plants in your home helps to bring the magic of nature to your indoor space.
Use an essential oil diffuser
Studies suggest that smell activates more areas of our brain than any other sense. If you want to raise the energy in your home, consider using an essential oil diffuser. Essential oils are very potent, highly concentrated botanical extracts. Be sure to always keep your essential oils out of reach of children and animals.
Some of my favorite oils for uplifting are orange, lavender and basil.
Burn herbs
Burning herbs is a very sacred and traditional way to cleanse the energy in your home. There is an almost endless list of herbs & woods that one can burn to do so, but among some of the most popular: sage, sweetgrass, and palo alto. If you take this route, please be sure to research how to do so respectfully! And always give the smoke a way to escape your home.
Light a candle or burn incense
Smudging rituals not quite for you? Try lighting a candle or burning incense. Flame helps to clear the energy and raise the vibrations inside a space. Flames can also make a wonderful focal point for meditation or intention setting. Burning candles and incense also incorporates the uplifting aspect of aromatherapy, similar to that of essential oil diffusion.
Salt Lamps
Salt lamps don’t just have a soft, beautiful glow. They also have several purported health benefits including purifying air, blocking electromagnetic radiation, improving sleep, and easing allergies. But how? Through ionization. Himalayan salt produces negatively charged ions that change the electrical charge in the immediate environment. For instance, these negatively charged ions entering the atmosphere cancel out the positively charged ions that are produced by electromagnetic radiation.
Take a Bath
Soaking in water is extremely beneficial for the body. Taking a bath can also be a great way to relax, unwind, think, set intentions, infuse nutrients into your body and raise your vibrations. Give yourself that moment to submerge, assess what’s going on in your body, mind, and environment.
Most of my favorite bath soaks have this base recipe:
1 part colloidal oats
1 part epsom salt
1 part pink Himalayan salt
1 part coconut milk powder
a few drops essential oil of your choice
a handful of flower petals (if you’re feeling fancy)
Crystals
If you caught last week’s post, I am a huge believer in using crystals for vibrational aid. There is no need to memorize which crystal is ‘good for this or that’- just cherish crystals that you vibe with. Something I neglected to mention last week: I’m a big proponent of selecting your crystals in person. Ordering online can be kind of like a blind date: You know nothing about them, how they look, don’t even have a vibe to go off of. It can end up being a pleasant surprise, but what happens if you don’t really click once you meet…
