The Zodiac Signs as Healing Crystals
Rocks: My First Love
"In a crystal, we have the clear evidence of the existence of a formative life principle, and though we cannot understand the life of a crystal, it is none the less a living being." - Nikola Tesla
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had an insatiable love for rocks. Crystals and gemstones, in particular, are one of the only things I know of that exquisitely blur the line between art and science. Some of my earliest memories include routine trips to the local crystal shop to pick out a new specimen for my collection. Once I learned to read, I became even more absorbed.
By the end of high school, I had spent several summers as a jeweler’s apprentice and had accumulated quite the collection. My gap years were filled with mysticism and rock hunting excursions. I have many fond memories amongst hills and forest paths, pockets filled with rocks. During this time, I also read into crystal lore and was first introduced to the practice of crystal healing.
In 2014, after business school, I earned a Graduate Gemologist Diploma from the GIA (NYC) and embarked on a career in Luxury Operations. I worked in the jewelry industry for 7 years, and have handled some of the most insane gemstones and pieces of jewelry on the surface of this planet. Don’t get me wrong, it was super cool but… I never really fit neatly into the plain cotton blouses, rush hour traffic, or small talk about the intricacies of the most recent Louboutin release. Two children and one pandemic later, I made the decision to pursue a life that satiates more than just my material ego. A few more blips, a move across the state, and now here we are! Although today I am more so focused on the herbalism aspect of holistic wellness, my profound love for crystals will always remain. <3
What Are Healing Crystals
The practice of crystal healing spans almost universally across all ancient cultures. Healing crystals can be used for lifestyle enhancement, spiritual enhancement, physical enhancement, environmental enhancement, and so on. The basic idea: Things made by the Earth contain an inherent lifeforce.
But, do crystals have special properties? Yes. Crystals have unique elemental constitutions, conditions of formation, and crystalline structures; and each specimen, its own individuality- much like fingerprints or snowflakes. The atoms of most crystals are held together by covalent bonds- the strongest atomic bonds in nature. These miraculous little rocks have been endowed with the ability to block, conduct, store, amplify, and transform energy. For that reason, we use them industrially in lasers, watches, cell phones, and more.
Crystal healing is the belief that crystals can also interact with our own energy field, in the form of vibrational aid. Crystal healing usually involves a combination of: the reading of your natal chart, chakras or aura, holistic consultation, and physical examination. Things like lunar cycle, planetary alignments and numerology are also sometimes taken into consideration.
Just as individual zodiacs generally have certain characteristics and traits, individual crystals generally have certain properties and energetic frequencies. The opinions below are my own, developed through years of study and practice on the metaphysical properties of crystals, but should not be taken as practical advice or professional suggestion!
